Pre-Conception and Pregnancy
Ayurveda sees pregnancy and birth as a profound, creative process and celebrates it both as an expression of health and a rite-of-passage into a new experience of womanhood. Ayurveda offers safe and effective care not only during the pregnancy itself, but most importantly also prior to conception and throughout the post-natal period. The positive outcomes of this comprehensive approach are ideal both for the child as well as for the long-term physical, mental and emotional health of the mother.
Ayurveda gives great importance to the preparation of both partners prior to conception, so that sperm and ova are of optimal quality and the environment within the woman’s body is such that she can successfully hold the pregnancy. Once pregnant, Ayurveda can support a woman not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally, so that she can embrace the ongoing changes in a grounded and empowered way.
At Ayuseva we support couples by offering individualised advice for diet and lifestyle changes, Ayurvedic remedies and treatments that will cleanse and prepare both partners prior to conceiving. After conception we offer supportive, nourishing and rejuvenating remedies and treatments for both mother and baby. A programme of regular pregnancy massages are a key part of the treatment approach, and has shown to bring significant benefit and emotional support during the pregnancy, as well as help to promote a successful labour, and a more effective post-natal recovery. We can also suggest remedies that effectively relieve symptoms of nausea, constipation, tiredness and headaches should they arise. The overall approach is sensitive, gentle and nourishing.
Post-Natal Care
As long as the baby receives love, warmth, milk and plenty of sleep, Nature takes care of its further development. At this time, it is actually the mother who needs the most care. An aspect of herself as a woman has also been ‘newly born’, and she requires all the nurturing, rest and support to joyfully make her transition into motherhood. Ayurveda has a wealth of advice and practical tools to effectively restore a woman’s strength and immunity and to prevent the onset of later complications such as backache, stiffness, dry skin, water retention, weight gain, poor digestion, exhaustion, anxiety, fear, post-natal depression and emotional sensitivity. Recommendations usually involve dietary and lifestyle advice, herbal remedies, Ayurvedic massage and specific home remedies that can be easily integrated into one’s life.
